Chiropractors believe that interference with the body's muscular,
nervous and skeletal systems (especially the spine or vertebrae) impairs
many important body functions and lowers resistance to disease. These
interferences are called "subluxations" and are what chiropractors are
affecting in their practice. A great emphasis is placed on keeping the
spine functioning properly to release tension in the connected muscles,
joints and nerves. Such care not only helps problems in the back but in
the entire nerve system. In fact, spinal adjustments can aid in the healing
of a wide spectrum of symptoms including headaches, menstrual cramps,
allergies, asthma, stomach disorders, and arm, hand, and leg pain.
Doctors of Chiropractic (D.C.s) use a wide variety of techniques, including low-force and the more traditional
structural movements to adjust the spinal column with easy, manual thrusts to help release stored tension in the
spinal structures. There are several different theories within the profession regarding which methods to use.
Any licensed chiropractor has been through 4 years of rigorous post-graduate curriculum and clinical study.
Chiropractic Care has always been on the cutting edge of the wellness movement,
which is finally taking root in this country. Chiropractors are concerned with
a patient's overall well-being and recognize that many factors affect health, including
stress, exercise, diet, rest, environment, and heredity. Chiropractors use drugless, non-surgical
health treatments and rely heavily on the body's ability to heal itself.
